An old colleague of mine used to tell me that life is too short to be low maintenance. I should mention that this person worked in beauty – which is not a judgment because after 7 years in this industry I have accumulated quite a few beauty tools that I use on a weekly basis and love. I won’t say I’m high maintenance, but I’ll give you my pick to be the judge: there’s my CurrentBody LED Mask, my Ziip microcurrent device, and of course a collection of rollers, gua-shas, and other de-puffing wands I use to keep my face sculpted, lifted, and youthful. That said, it is very difficult to take this at-home facial routine with you. And I travel – a lot. So when TheraBody announced that their latest tool was basically an all-in-one facial device, I was intrigued. Since coming into possession of the TheraFace Pro with both the hot and cold rings, I’ve taken it on three trips and made quite a few observations.
First and foremost, especially if you buy the cooling and heating attachments, the device is all-encompassing. Not only does it have percussion handling functions (with three attachments), but it also has a micro current ring and a LED light therapy attachment with red, blue and infrared red light, as well as a cleaning brush head. And then there are the cooling and warming heads. That is a total of 6 treatment options.
In addition, you can do some treatments at the same time. For example, you can use some of the percussive attachments while using the LED attachment, which will break tension and boost collagen production, as well as reduce inflammation and breakouts in one fell swoop. Or use the tap function with the cooling head to banish an approaching tension headache. It’s really versatile – and I might add – useful when you’re traveling and feeling blah. A few minutes in the airport lounge gives you more than enough time for a double treatment. I also really enjoy the percussive attachments for the muscle tone benefits. With the original Theragun, you couldn’t use the device around your neck. It’s certainly still worth being careful (and of course never use the percussion device on the front of your neck), but if you feel like your neck is bothering you due to poor posture, this device is a godsend – especially if you have a hunch during the flight, which i do.
My favorite of all the attachments is the micro current device as it really gives you instant sculpted and puffed results. This has been a game changer for me, as in the past I’ve left my standalone versions of these attachments at home because it isn’t efficient to take them all with me when traveling. But these really help you get your red carpet ready without sacrificing a ton of space in a suitcase.
The cold and hot attachments are great too. Of the two, I’m a fan of the cold because it’s helpful when you wake up hungover (sorry mom) and a much less messy option than sticking your face in an ice bucket. However, I note that although the cold attachment is cold and remains constant at the coldest temperature, I wish it would get a little colder. And the hot attachment is nice – I could see it being really comforting in the winter.
As for the cleaning head.. I don’t use it. I’d rather just use my hands. That’s totally a personality thing, ie, that’s not what I look for in a device. But if you like a bristly brush, all the more power for you.
And for those who think that a device like this is strange, Gua Sha works great if you want an effective but not so easy daily treatment. However, if you’re looking for multi-functionality while consistently taking the time for these treatments, it’s definitely worth considering. For me, the TheraFace Pro has earned itself a permanent place in my carry-on – and I entrust it to me to prepare a formal event for more than four weddings this summer. I’m not just saying that.
