After the Xbox Showcase, Game Pass looks stacked in 2023

Now that the dust has really settled on Xbox’s 2022 summer showcase, we’ve had a chance to sit back, take stock and look ahead. While it’s true that the rest of this year looks pretty bare-bones coming from Xbox Game Studios, the showcase left us with one thought left: 2023 is definitely stacked on Xbox Game Pass.

Let’s first look at the beginning of next year. Xbox’s showcase focused on “the next 12 months”and much of it looks set to fall in early 2023. We’ve got Bethesda’s few recent delays – redfall and starfield — arrival in the first half of next year, together with Forza Motorsportwhich is scheduled for “spring 2023”.

These three alone would probably qualify as a solid year for Xbox first party. Starfield is the first new IP from Bethesda Game Studios in foreverwhile Redfall is an interesting looking co-op shooter from the makers of the dishonored series. Oh, and the latter will work well for solo players too, as confirmed by Harvey Smith of Arkane

Then there’s Forza Motorsport, probably the most ‘next-gen’ game we’ve seen from Xbox since the launch of Series X|S (along with Microsoft Flight Simulator, naturally). Turn 10’s upcoming racer looks absolutely gorgeous, and we’re still thinking about it ‘Maple Valley’ glow up three days later. Forza usually arrives in the fall — as have most major Xbox exclusives in the past — and the fact that it’s coming in the spring is making us all giddy.

In addition to what has been confirmed for early next year, we have some big Game Pass releases in 2023. stalker 2 reappeared during Xbox’s Extended Showcase with a new 2023 window (along with a terrifyingly beautiful trailer), and that remains one of our most anticipated games of next year. It is also still being released on Xbox Game Pass, as an exclusive console launch.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Valheim was also added to the Game Pass list during this week’s extensive showcase; a few more games coming to consoles in 2023. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s first proper look piqued our interest, and it seems to follow the movie’s template quite well (albeit in a multiplayer form). Oh, and did we mention a new Minecraft game hits Game Pass next year

We haven’t even talked about what’s going to happen for the rest of 2022 yet, so let’s get a few out. Xbox may need to slow down a bit, we’re getting the age-old problem of too many games and too little time!
